WE ARE ADMINISTRATING A NEW MEDICINE FOR DIABETIC AND AGE - RELATED MACULAR DEGENERATION (YELLOW POINT DISEASE) PATIENTS:
Diabetes and age-related macular degeneration are diseases that affect the retina layer. They constitute the most common reason of ampliyobia in advanced ages. The common reason of the ampliyobia in these diseases is the development of angiogenesis in the retina layer which also contains the visual cortex. New veins developed as a result of these diseases cannot function ideally as they are not as strong as the current vascular structure. As a result, liquid leakage and hemorrhage occur. The leak of current liquid, that is, its accumulation in the retina causes the development of retinal edema and then ampliyobia. The ampliyobia can be recovered but if the treatment starts at a later stage, its treatment would become less successful.
The angiogenesis in retina may cause complete blindness. There are a set of treatment methods to prevent this situation. The objective of the treatment is choosing the most effective and the least risky method at the first instance. The effectiveness of Treatment of Retinal Diseases by Injection is shown in the recent studies. The injection treatment is a treatment method which is implemented by injecting a medicine which prevents the angiogenesis to the intraocular liquid. The studies have shown that this medicine has no toxic affect on the retina. The fact that this method is very beneficial for diabetic and age - related macular degeneration (yellow point disease) patients, allowed a large patient population to benefit from this method. Since this treatment requires sterile environment for implementation, this treatment is held in operating theatre in our hospital. The operation is completed in very short time and patients can continue their daily life right after the operation. |
